Infantry Situation Awareness Training (ISAT)
Situation Awareness (SA) provides the foundation for the
successful decision-making and actions of infantry warfighters. Deficiencies in SA, particularly for inexperienced officers, can cause disastrous results on the battlefield. With the development of Infantry Situation Awareness Training (ISAT), new infantry platoon leaders gain the skills necessary for developing the high levels of situation awareness needed in military operations. Officers and cadets are trained on how to obtain high levels of SA, which gives them the ability to make better decisions and spend less mental effort determining how to best meet the goals of their mission.
This computer-based training module provides cost-effective
training using realistic mission-based scenarios to build up key schema for SA and contingency planning, communications and task management skills. ISAT consists of two modules. The SA Planner teaches time management and task prioritization skills, while the SA Trainer focuses more globally on developing knowledge bases for understanding the information necessary to develop SA. Originally developed for the Army Research Institute,
ISAT was successfully tested with the Norwegian Armed forces.
